I live in a historic building in the West Village of New York where the windows only fit the smallest and most function deprived AC units . I needed a device that is easy to use, would control my AC to keep the room at a steady temperature and visually harness the bridge between the building structure and the modern technology it commands. I opted for a larger device that would also serve as decorative element in my home.

kalt is based on an Arduino board with temperature sensors, a wifi connectivity chip and connects to a Belkin Wemo switch relay. The base module periodically checks the ambient temperature and engages the relay if cooling is needed.

The exterior shape, which will be made of brass, blackened wood and glass, is reminiscent of a modern industrial cooling tower but combines materials more commonly found in older buildings.

Currently the device is in prototyping phase.
